New York: 7:24 AM

Chase stood alone, watching the dawn break over New York, from his new apartment, thinking about the events of the night. Awkwardly, Shadow walked up to him; he didn’t know what to say.

“How’s Wendy?” He asked somberly

Chase sighed “She’s shaken up, and traumatized, but… from what I’ve seen she's strong so…she’ll live.” He said as they both glanced back at the sleeping figure that lay on the couch, wrapped up in three fuzzy blankets.

Then, he sadly turned his attention back to the New York skyline. They both remained silent, Shadow knew that if Chase wanted to talk, he would. And he did.

“I can’t believe it.” He said dryly

“Believe what?” Shadow asked, though he, of course, knew the answer.

“I can’t even think about it without getting sick,” He continued disgusted “I can’t believe that MY dad, no matter how much I don’t want to believe it, he is the one who tortured, who traumatized, who experimented on,  and who ruined the life of that little girl. MY DAD did all of that.”

Shadow was silent for a second.

“No,”

“What?” Chase questioned turning to face his friend.

“No” He said again, turning to face Chase “That thing that you saw tonight, that monster... That was not your father…That was Tech.”

And suddenly it clicked, for the first time, Chase really understood that fact.

In truth, his father had died years ago,

with a single tear forming in his eye, he returned his gaze to the New York skyline, just as the sun started to take its rightful place in the sky, marking the beginning of a new day.
